GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

An Aussie Busman's Holiday in East Asia
In this Aussie Busman’s holiday we look at buses and coaches in China, Hong Kong under both the British and Chinese control, Taiwan, Philippines, Vietnam and Indonesia.
Our views range between 2007 and 2024.
Our 2008 mission to Vietnam commenced in Hanoi and visited central Vietnam with cities like Hue and Hoi An before finishing in Ho Chi Minh City. A trip down the Mekong River on a Russian Hydrofoil with exhaust smoke billowing out took us to Vung Tao and Nui Dat with a visit to a rubber plantation where the Battle of Long Tan occurred.
We see images of buses in Xian in China and also images from Busworld in Shanghai in 2011.
Next we set sail in 2024 on the Diamond Princess from Japan to Sydney visiting various interesting ports along the way.
Ports included Hong Kong, Taipei, Manila, Bali and Lombok.
I’m not a huge fan of exported Chinese buses and coaches. However, we must give the Chinese credit for their marketing and price competitiveness as they have entered many foreign markets at the expense of local bodybuilders and suppliers.
